A pigtail is used to provide fiber optics with a connector. This creates a stable and reliable connection between network. When you build or upgrade a fiber network, the same four words pop up everywhere— fiber optic (bare fiber), pigtail, patch cord, optical cable. They're related, but they are not interchangeable. Mixing them up drives costs higher, increases loss, and slows your rollout. It ensures a secure connection by combining wires with a wire connector, like a twist-on connector or a wire nut, and then linking them to the intended terminal or fixture. In fiber optics, pigtails are fusion-spliced to field fiber inside splice trays — the most common termination method in telecom and data center networks.
